Wish Keeper is a celebration of childhood wonder, quiet hope, and the little pieces of magic we carry with us long after we have grown.
At the heart of the painting rests a ladybug — a tiny creature that, across generations and cultures, has become entwined with folklore surrounding luck, love, protection and wishes. Something so small and ordinary, yet entrusted with so much hope.
The Story & Inspiration
When I was little, I wished upon ladybugs.
I would hold them gently, whispering my wishes before waiting for those tiny red wings to open and carry them away. Amongst those childhood wishes was one I returned to again and again — the dream of becoming an artist.
Years later, that little girl’s wish has become the life I am slowly creating.
Wish Keeper was painted in honour of every ladybug I once entrusted with that dream. A reminder of the strange and beautiful way childhood wishes can remain with us, quietly waiting beneath the years until one day we realise we have found our way back to them.
It is a piece about memory, folklore and believing, even for a moment, that something as small as a ladybug might be capable of carrying a wish.
Perhaps some wishes were never meant to disappear when they flew away.
Perhaps they were simply being kept for us.
