An ethereal luna moth rests amongst purple blooms, suspended in a quiet world somewhere between nature and imagination.

The Inspiration

Lunar Bloom began with my daughter.

While turning the pages of a book filled with moths and butterflies, my eldest daughter found a creature neither of us had ever seen before: a luna moth.

She brought the page to me, and for a moment we were both completely enchanted.

Luna moths don’t inhabit the forests or gardens of Australia. They belonged to a part of the natural world far beyond our own, yet there was something about those pale green wings and long, delicate tails that seemed almost too beautiful to be real. Like a creature imagined for a fairytale that had somehow found its way into nature instead.

Together, our curiosity grew. We wandered through stories of their fleeting lives and the mythology, folklore and symbolism woven around moths: transformation, intuition, renewal, and the quiet courage of being drawn towards the light.

And somewhere amongst all that wonder, Lunar Bloom began to take shape.

There is something deeply special to me about watching my children’s imaginations awaken to the world. As an artist, I have the rare privilege of taking those little sparks of wonder, the creatures we discover, the stories we tell, the worlds we imagine, and giving them somewhere tangible to exist.

So I painted the luna moth we could never find in our own garden.

I gave her a world of purple flowers in which to rest, preserving that small moment of shared wonder between mother and daughter in paint.

Lunar Bloom is, at its heart, a painting about curiosity, transformation, and the magic we find when we allow ourselves to remain enchanted by the world.

The Painting

Lunar Bloom was created slowly over more than a month, building the painting through layer upon layer of acrylic to achieve the softness, depth and fine detail that characterise my work.

From the delicate markings and subtle variations within the moth’s wings to the surrounding flowers and foliage, every element was painted by hand with careful attention to detail.

The finished artwork has been sealed and finished with a protective satin varnish, helping to preserve and protect the painting while maintaining a soft, elegant finish.

Lunar Bloom is presented in a black wooden floater frame, allowing a subtle shadow line to surround the canvas while keeping the entire painting visible. The contrast of the black frame against the soft purples and luminous green of the luna moth gives the finished piece a beautiful, gallery-style presentation.

The artwork arrives framed and ready to hang, ready to take its place in its new home.
